How to Prepare for an Upper Endoscopy or Gastroscopy

On the day of the examination, the patient must not eat! On the previous evening, a light dinner is recommended, but no later than 7PM. After dinner, only still water is allowed. Prescribed oral medications must be taken no later than 6 hours before the endoscopy with a small amount of water. Drinking fluids is prohibited 4 hours before the examination.

During an upper endoscopy, without the need for special prior patient preparation, it is possible, if necessary, to perform various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as biopsies, bleeding control, polyp removal, foreign body extraction, and similar.
