How to Prepare for a Colonoscopy or Lower Endoscopy
GASTRO CENTRS personalized recommendations for patient preparation for a colonoscopy procedure:
Practical recommendations from GASTRO CENTRA – how to prepare for a colonoscopy procedure?
When performing endoscopic procedures, especially colonoscopy, it is very important for the patient to prepare for the procedure. This is an essential prerequisite for the patient to feel comfortable and to obtain high-quality examination results. Therefore, GASTRO CENTER has prepared practical recommendations on how to prepare for a colonoscopy in the best and most correct way.
MEDICATION FOR BOWEL CLEANSING:
The day before the procedure, bowel cleansing begins with medication prescribed by a doctor. The ideal bowel cleansing method should be quick, safe, and effective, causing minimal discomfort to the patient.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MEDICATION USE:
• Fresh lemon juice immediately after drinking the liquid suppresses the aftertaste of the liquid.
• Reduce your sense of taste by pinching your nose. An unpleasant smell can significantly intensify the taste sensation.
• Drink with a straw: place the end of the straw as far back on the tongue as possible to avoid contact with the taste buds.
• Take your time – if the medication causes any discomfort, stop drinking it for 30 minutes.
INFORMATION FOR PATIENTS BEFORE THE PROCEDURE:
The procedure is performed under anesthesia. It is recommended that the patient be accompanied by another person (especially important for elderly patients).
Bring a referral from your family doctor and/or specialist.
You must not drive for 12 hours after the procedure.
Proper bowel preparation is an important prerequisite for the success of the procedure.
ON THE DAY OF THE PROCEDURE:
Leave everything that is not essential at home, especially jewelry and watches.
